Massage for neck and shoulder tension from desk work

Laptop neck, Infopark shoulders, the ache between your shoulder blades by six o'clock. Here's why it happens, what massage can do about it, and what it can't.

Why desks do this

Hours at a screen pull the head forward and round the shoulders. The muscles at the back of the neck and between the shoulder blades hold that position all day, while the chest muscles shorten. By evening, the overworked muscles feel tight and tender — and some develop the familiar knots you can press on and feel.

A long commute, a heavy laptop bag and a phone checked with your chin down don't help.

What massage can do

Massage can ease muscle tension, help you notice and drop the shoulders you've been holding up, and make it easier to move and sit well afterwards. Most people also sleep better that night. It works best as part of a rhythm, not a one-off rescue.

Which session to book

  • A quick reset after work: Neck, Back & Shoulders, 30 min ₹1,500 or 45 min ₹1,800.
  • Tension and a headache-y head: Desk Rescue — Neck, Back & Shoulders 45 + Head & Scalp — ₹2,500.
  • Long-standing knots: Deep Tissue Release, 60 min ₹2,800 or 90 min ₹3,500, with steam and shower.
  • Tired all over, not just sore: Swedish Restore.

How often?

If the tension has built over months, two sessions a couple of weeks apart, then every three to four weeks, is a sensible rhythm for many people. The Monthly Deep membership (₹2,500 a month) and the Reset Pass (ten 30-minute Express sessions, ₹13,500) are made for exactly this — see memberships.

Three small habits between sessions

  1. Raise the screen. The top of the screen at about eye level, so your head sits over your shoulders.
  2. Move every 45 minutes. Stand, roll the shoulders back and down five times, look out of a window.
  3. Chin tucks. Gently draw the chin back — making a double chin — hold for five seconds, ten times. It undoes the forward-head position.

Your follow-up note after each VĀNA session will suggest what to carry forward for your own body.

When to see a doctor first

Massage is not a substitute for medical care. Numbness, tingling or weakness in the arms or hands, pain that spreads, headaches that are new or severe, or pain after a fall or accident should be checked by a doctor or physiotherapist before you book a massage.
